Holiday Cottages in Cornwall

The beauty of choosing self catering holiday cottages in Cornwall is the opportunity to sample as many of the county’s impressive foodie offerings as you can within the time you’ve got, whether that’s a short break, long weekend getaway or an indulgent fortnight’s holiday.

Your ‘to eat’ list should start with all the traditional favourites – a Cornish pasty (the ones from Philps’ in Camborne are a firm favourite), an afternoon cream tea, and of course as many ice creams as you can manage (do try the clotted cream ones – they’re delicious). There are also plenty of shops selling locally made fudge for those with a sweet tooth.

With an impressive 275 miles of coastline, seafood is another must eat if you’re going self catering. If you want to go really traditional, make sure to order the stargazy pie, made with the fish positioned so that their heads stick through the crust as if they’re watching the night sky. There are plenty of fishing villages where you can buy fish fresh off the boats too – not to mention mussels, lobster and even dressed crab to cook back at your at holiday cottages in Cornwall. You could even brush up on your skills at one of the county’s growing number of cookery schools.

For the rest of your shopping needs while you’re self catering, try the variety of farmers markets and farm shops, where you can buy locally sourced produce from meat and veg to home baked bread and cakes, freshly pressed juice and cider and home made jams and preserves. Even the supermarkets here stock Cornish goods from independent companies like the Cornish Tea Co to enjoy at your at holiday cottages in Cornwall.

And if you want a night off while you’re self catering in Cornwall, try one of the country’s many top quality restaurants. From budget destinations serving honest, home cooked grub to celebrity chef destinations such as Nathan Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen in Port Isaac, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall at Watergate Bay or Rick Stein’s The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, there’s plenty to choose from.
