Short breaks in Cornwall

Short breaks in Cornwall combine the best of both worlds – a chance to get away from it all in a warm and extremely beautiful area without having to go all that far from home. Escape the rat race and head into the beautiful countryside or a pretty little fishing village where time will slow down and the hustle and bustle of real life will feel like a distant memory in no time.

Visitors can pack a lot into short breaks in Cornwall, with many of the county’s most popular attractions in easy driving distance of wherever you might choose to stay. Visit one of the many beautiful gardens such as the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the National Trust’s Trelissick, or the world famous Eden Project, head underground to explore one of the old tin or coal mines, take in a show at the stunning outdoor Minack Theatre or enjoy the variety of artwork at the Tate St Ives or your nearest artist run gallery.

Of course, being such a long and slender county, you’re never far from a good beach in Cornwall – many of which are dog friendly – whether you want to give surfing a try on the rugged Atlantic coast to the north or laze in the sunshine on the sandy southern beaches. The coast also means access to plenty of water sports, including fishing if you should fancy it.

Anyone enjoying short breaks in Cornwall should make sure to squeeze in as many of Cornwall’s foodie offerings as you can – a Cornish pasty, a traditional cream tea, and at least one ice cream, not to mention fish and seafood straight off the boat and a good pint of local ale or cider. As a treat, why not head to one of the many top quality restaurants in the area, such as Nathan Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen in Port Isaac or Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall at Watergate Bay?

As for accommodation, you really can take your pick when it comes to short breaks in Cornwall. Cartwheel Holiday’s members offer everything from quaint cottages to Scandi-style lodges, converted barns to Sioux-style tipis, with both self-catering and bed and breakfast options available. However you decide to spend your time, you’ll leave Cornwall relaxed and refreshed – and wanting to come back again soon to discover even more of this delightful county.
