The Ancient Barn and Old Stables

Two really special Grade II listed buildings, The Ancient Barn and Old Stables, are part of ancient settlement dating back at least to the 15th century, surrounded by lovely unspoilt countryside and close to Castle Cary.

Ancient Barn and Old Stables

If you are looking for a truly unique, historic experience, come and stay in our medieval cruck barn or 17th century stables with original features including beautiful beams and traditional flagstone floors.

You can also arrange to see our incredible farmhouse, steeped in history with amazing medieval hall and Tudor wall paintings.

Wonderful walking in typically English countryside; full of old track ways and thriving hedgerows. You may spot deer, badgers, rabbits, foxes, bats, owls, buzzards and a wide range of other birds, and if you are lucky enough to visit between late June and August, there are also glow worms.

The Ancient Barn (sleeps four +1 in two bedrooms)

Ancient Barn exterior

A really unusual holiday home, this medieval barn was almost certainly built in the 1300s and has sympathetically converted, preserving its original features.

Ancient Barn beams

Lofty living/dining/kitchen area with a wealth of old beams, a flagstone floor with under floor heating and double doors leading to a small paved patio.

Wonderfully beamed twin bedroom (plus folding guest bed) upstairs, and double bedroom downstairs with a magnificent king-sized antique brass bed and bathroom next door.

The Old Stables (sleeps seven in three bedrooms)

Old Stable exterior

This substantial Grade II listed stable-block dates from the 17th century. Built of the local golden-coloured stone with many ancient beams and timbers throughout, a south east-facing garden and parking for several cars.

Old Stables bedroom

Beautifully beamed living/kitchen/dining room, ground floor double bedroom with a magnificent king-sized four-poster bed and bathroom next door, upstairs double and triple bedrooms and second bathroom with shower.

The Bee House (sleeps one to two)

Bee House

The Bee House can be rented in conjunction with either The Ancient Barn or The Old Stables – both are close by. Set in our garden, it provides an additional cosy bedroom, perhaps for a family member needing a peaceful retreat in the evenings.
