St Austell

St Austell is an inland town which enjoys the particularly good location of being easily accessible and a good exploring base for other areas in the county. As capital of the china clay industry, St Austell has some good shops and excellent attractions in its vicinity.

One of the most well known attractions is the Eden project which has fast become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.

Near St. Austell are the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan which were restored by Tim Smit, the driving force behind Eden, and have been part of a Channel 4 series featuring the many exotic and fine flowers and shrubs in the various gardens – don’t miss out on the pineapple garden! The Wheal Martyn China Clay heritage centre is also worth a visit as is the Craft centre at Biscovey.
