The doomsday book gave the village the name Pomecanole and it was taxed on five hides and land for four ploughs and a total value of £5

In 1642, when John Croft was Rector, 49 males over the age of 18 living in the village signed the Protestation binding them to uphold and defend the true Protestant Religion

The remains of the village stocks can be seen to the right of the lych-gate of the church. With it's historical emphasis and pretty surroundings, Puncknowle makes a perfect retreat.
