For a truly unique camping experience, stay at Tamar Valley Tipis; Sioux-designed tipis set in a peaceful glade overlooking a lake and the magnificent scenery of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the border of Cornwall and Devon.

Tamar Valley Tipis are hand painted with traditional native American artwork and were made in the USA by Nomadics Tipi Makers, who also made the tipis for the film Dances With Wolves. We have two sizes of tipi; the smaller will accommodate 2 – 3 people, and the larger will accommodate 4 people. The woodburning stove provides cooking and heating facilities, and there is also a small camping gas stove, a barbecue for outside cooking and a fire pit by the lake. Pots, pans, cutlery and crockery are supplied.

There are rugs on the wooden floor, low tables and mattresses, so all you need to bring is your pillow and sleeping bag or duvet, hand towels and tea towels. The interiors of the tipis are open spaces, and screens can be provided if you require them. Toilets, washbasins and hot showers are available.

Tamar Valley Tipis will appeal to those with a love for the countryside and conservation, wildlife photographers, ornithologists, artists, walkers, and those who seek to leave the city behind and head for the country for a holiday with a difference.

The tipis are situated on our working farm, which dates back to the 14th century when it was an ancient Royal Deer Park. Now a 280 acre family run beef, sheep and arable farm, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of life on a working farm throughout the seasons.

There is an abundance of wildlife surrounding Tamar Valley Tipis including deer, rabbits, badgers and otters, many different species of birds, butterflies, moths and bats. The Tamar Valley Discovery Trail passes close to the farm, and Dartmoor National Park, Kit Hill Country Park and Luckett Nature Reserve are all nearby.

There is a wealth of things to see and do locally; National Trust properties, salmon fishing, canoe expeditions, golf courses, horse riding and outdoor pursuits, Tamar Valley Donkey Park, the Victorian mining village at Morwellham Quay and even tree surfing.

Car parking is available close by, but out of sight of the tipis. If you wish to arrive by train, the nearest station is Gunnislake, approximately 3 miles away. If you let us know in advance which train you are arriving on, we can arrange to pick you up.

The nearest shop and Post Office is in Stoke Climsland, a short drive from Tamar Valley Tipis. Both Callington (3 miles) and Tavistock (6 miles) provide a full range of services, including a wide range of high street shopping, cafes and restaurants, public services and leisure facilities. The nearest pubs are the Royal Inn at Horsebridge (1 mile), the Rifle Volunteer at St Anns Chapel (2 miles), and the Swingle Tree at Kelly Bray (2 miles).

As Tamar Valley Tipis is on a working farm, no dogs are allowed. We can recommend a pet hotel one mile away. The terrain is unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Located on the Deer Park Farm estate, atop a little hill overlooking a lake, Tamar Valley Tipis are simple but comfortable tipis kitted out with raised beds, wooden stoves for cooking and heating, and BBQs outside, not to mention idyllic views and total peace and quiet.
